There is no proof IGP can steal elections for NPP – Ahiagbah

Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has challenged the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to provide evidence supporting their claim that the NPP is involved in the leaked tape alleging a plot to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Ahiagbah stated that there is no proof that Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the IGP, has the power to unilaterally influence election outcomes in favor of any political party. He urged the NDC to share their knowledge if they know how to use an IGP to manipulate election results.

Addressing the issue on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Ahiagbah emphasized that throughout the Fourth Republic, there has been no evidence to suggest that an IGP can single-handedly determine electoral outcomes for any political party.

While expressing support for the seven-member Parliamentary Committee investigating the leaked tape, Ahiagbah expressed concerns about the NDC’s premature conclusion on the matter before the committee’s report was released. He cautioned against politicizing the tape and urged the NDC to tread cautiously.

Ahigbah referred to Martin Amidu’s analysis, which suggested that it is not possible to use an IGP to rig an election, to buttress his point.

He maintained that even if such an attempt were made, there would likely be conscientious individuals within the police service who would expose the wrongdoing.

Regarding the power to replace government officials, Ahiagbah noted that the President has the authority to make appointments based on performance. He clarified that it is within the President’s purview to replace the IGP if necessary and emphasized that there is no indication of any such action being contemplated.

Ahiagbah disagreed with Felix Kwakye Ofosu, former Deputy Information Minister for the NDC, who criticized interior minister Ambrose Dery for his remarks on the leaked tape. Ahiagbah defended Dery, stating that as a sector minister responsible for the IGP, Dery was representing the President’s position. He suggested that the NDC should not attempt to speak on behalf of the ministry.

Assin Central Lawmaker who is one of the leading Presidential candidates of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Honourable Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has advised NPP delegates to be “wise”.

“They know they didn’t take care of you that’s why they are buying your votes cheap. As for me, my works speak for me… I have been always fighting and speaking for you”, He told the delegates.

“Me I was the one fighting for you polling station and Constituency executives. I have been speaking for you but they don’t listen. I have seen that sometimes talking doesn’t go far so I want you to give me the steer to drive the party,” he said.

“I promise you when you vote for me I will beat Mahama hands down,” he added.

“You the grassroots are suffering. Police you didn’t get. Customs you didn’t get. Immigration you didn’t get. Soldier came you didn’t get. Teaching you didn’t get. Local government you didn’t get… I am here to fight for you,” he shouted.

Whether it is your turn or not, Bawumia will lead NPP – Annoh-Dompreh tells Alan

Whatever the circumstances, the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, would serve as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2024 elections, Majority Chief Whip, Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has said.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, is then urging Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the former Trade Minister, to abandon his plans of becoming the party’s flagbearer, as he would not get the needed support from NPP fraternity.

These comments were made by Mr. Annoh-Dompreh as he was speaking to the Nsawam-Adoagyiri women’s wing of the NPP about the “Eduru meso” mantra.

“Now, we would tell him plainly that whether it’s his turn or not, we would let Bawumia lead us, it’s Bawumia that we are going with,” he said to the cheering delegates.

He emphasized how well the NPP has been by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, particularly when he represented the organization in the Supreme Court during the 2012 election lawsuit.

Even prominent lawyers inside the party’s circles, according to Hon. Annoh-Dompreh were unable to defend the party in the 2012 election petition, claiming only Dr. Bawumia was able to do that. He explained that this is why he does not support the “Eduru meso” motto.

He ridiculed, “NPP is the only party with the greatest lawyers yet Dr. Bawumia took it upon himself that he was going to save the party, while someone claimed it wasn’t yet his turn, so now let him be told that whether it’s his turn or not, Bawumia will go.”

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh therefore urged the delegates to support Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming flagbearer election because the latter has the potential to boost the NPP’s votes in 2024.

He used the platform to fire Mr. John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s candidate, that he carries no weight and must therefore forget the 2024 elections. According to Annoh-Dompreh, JM would lose horribly in next year’s polls.
