AI-Media et Middleman annoncent un partenariat d’insertion publicitaire

BROOKLYN, État de New York, 01 sept.

2024 Elections: NDC targets 14 seats in Western Region

The Western Regional Youth Wing of the opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has assured the leadership of the party of their determination to assist the party in winning 14 out of 17 parliamentary seats in the Western Region and flipping the presidential votes in favour of NDC.

“We have been energized and poised for the battle ahead”, NDC Western Regional Youth Organizer, Alhaji Mustapha Iddrisu emphasized.

Alhaji Mustapha Iddrisu has therefore challenged constituency and branch youth organizers of the party to adopt the power of collaboration and cooperation in the discharge of their duties as party officials managing grassroots mobilization.

“As a wing of the party, we the youth must endeavour to collaborate with other stakeholders for our mutual benefit,” he said.

The youth commander was addressing youth organizers in the party at a capacity-building conference organized in Ellembelle in the Western Region under the theme “Mobilization for power: The Role of a Youth Organizer”.

He said the leadership of the Western Regional Youth wing, recognises the critical role the youth will play in mobilizing massive support for the NDC to secure victory in 2024, hence, the decision to organise the capacity-building conference with the main purpose of enhancing mobilization of skills of constituency youth organizers across the region.

“I therefore implore my youth commanders to give the conference its maximum attention. Many are those who have questioned the usefulness of this conference. I have often told them that the difference this time around is that we have new leadership that has been progressive, reliable, responsive, and productive. Business as usual is no longer in the lexicon of the youth”, he submitted.

He noted that the Mustapha-led Western Regional Youth Wing is poised to change the political narrative of the Western Region.

He said: “As we are about to enter the election year, we shall revolutionize our campaign strategies, aims at winning more votes for both Presidential and Parliamentary candidates in Western Region”.

He said there were compiling reasons why the Akufo Addo/Bawumia administration must be kicked out of office.

“They have destroyed every sector of the Ghanaian economy and the future is bleak, making them unfit to be in office beyond the 2024 general elections”, he added.

The youth wing, he underscored will therefore collaborate with the various stakeholders especially the members of parliament and parliamentary candidates in this crucial election.

He continued by saying: “According to the population census, about 56% of the Ghanaian population is youthful. And this put the youth wing in a crucial position towards next year’s crucial elections”.

“Mr. Chairman, the Western Regional youth wing is poised for victory in the forthcoming general elections and will leave no stone unturned for our effort to be counted. However, in winning power next year, we shall demand our pound of flesh. We are equally ready and qualified to be appointed CEOs in the various institutions. Job opportunities, scholarships, and travel opportunities will be demanded”

Alhaji Mustapha Iddirisu expressed profound gratitude to the party’s regional patron, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah for his significant role in organizing this event in the history of the youth wing.

“We also want to use this platform to once again congratulate you on your elevation to the position of Deputy Minority Leader. We are super proud of this singular honour bestowed on the Western Region. Words have failed me to convey our highest form of appreciation to you”, Mustapha acknowledged the MP.

He concluded his address with a call on the youth to seize the opportunity to enhance their organisational skills ahead of the 2024 crucial elections.

“As commanders, we must live up to our responsibilities”, he added.

Ada Songor Salt project will be transformative to ecosystem – Trade Minister

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Kobina Tahir Hammond, has said the entry of Electrochem into Ghana’s salt industry has the potential to transform the entire ecosystem as well as the economy.

According to him, the firm will present the economy with an opportunity to tap into huge regional and global demand of salt for industrial purposes while harnessing the commercial viability and environmental benefits of the natural resource.

Speaking at an event to commission the Ada Songor Salt Mine and Processing Plant on August 30, K.T. Hammond said although there has been private sector investment interest in salt mining and processing over the years, some firms in the sector have either become defunct or non-operational due to difficulties encountered at each stage of implementation.

“Electrochem, after experiencing some challenges and setbacks in operations within the area, has managed to invest $88 million in this state-of the-art salt washing plant and its ancillary infrastructure and facilities,” K.T. Hammond said.

“Progress has been relatively fast considering that the Electrochem industrial site, which was completed in February this year, took you just two years to construct,” he added.

The Minister further said the commissioning marks a major transition into large scale salt mining and processing to enable Ghana begin to realize its rightful place as a major salt producer.

He, however, appealed to the chiefs and leaders of the Ada area including the youth to lend their support to the project.

“It is an important launchpad into the modernization of salt mining and processing in Ghana and that this will be most beneficial in terms of attracting allied industries which require salt as the basic raw material, to invest, locate and create the much-needed jobs in this area,” the minister concluded.

The Ada Songor Salt Mine and Processing Plant currently produces about 650,000 metric tons of salt products per annum with the view of increasing its capacity to 1 million metric tons by 2024 and 2 million metric tons by 2027.

This would make it the largest in Africa with the potential to employ about 3,000 youth within the area and expected to increase to 7,000 with the completion of the second phase.

The plant sits on a 41,000 acres concession which was approved by Parliament in October 2020. It aims to produce and supply salt products to local and export markets.

AfDB’s FIMES project marks success in bolstering transitional economies

In a successful effort to propel transitional African economies towards stability and growth, the African Development Bank’s Financial Modelling for the Extractives (FIMES) project has showcased remarkable results, as representatives from eight African countries benefiting from FIMES concluded a final learning workshop in Abidjan last Thursday.

Coming from Guinea, Liberia, Madagascar, Niger, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Zimbabwe, the participants shared their experiences around the programme launched in 2020 for two days.

FIMES is a multi-country project funded by the African Development Bank Group’s Transition Support Facility and implemented by the African Natural Resources Management and Investment Centre (ANRC). The project will strengthen capacity for financial modelling and domestic tax revenue mobilisation. It also boosts the institutional capacity and resilience of seven beneficiary transitional countries, Guinea, Liberia, Madagascar, Niger, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Zimbabwe.

Acting Director of the African Centre for Natural Resource Management and Investment Vanessa Ushie said FIMES was a pioneering large-scale effort by the African Development Bank to build financial modelling capacity in Africa.

“In all beneficiary countries, the lessons and experiences shared at this workshop indicate that FIMES has supported legislative revisions in the petroleum and mining sector and generated comprehensive knowledge and data on key natural resources, leading to better investment agreements, policy decisions and revenue flows,” Ushie said.

“As we enter an era of uncertainty for fossil fuels, due to climate change and the clean energy transition, it is important to build on the foundations of the FIMES project in beneficiary countries and beyond, deepening financial modelling capacity to support investments for a just transition in Africa,” she said.

Treasury Inspector at Madagascar’s Ministry of Economy and Finance Rakotosalama Tojo Hasina Fanomezana said his country anticipated a surge in mining’s contribution to the national Gross Domestic Product from 4% to potentially 15% within the next three years, thanks to the capacity-building efforts in financial modelling for the extractive sector through FIMES.

Fanomezana said the programme had trained 23 government officials from the mining, customs, and finance sectors, with to improve fiscal and parafiscal policies in the extractive sector. “We recommend capitalising on current achievements through exchanges of good practices and discussions around common problems with other countries,” he said.

Aboubacar Sidiki Diakité, Service Manager at the Guinean Ministry of Budget, Prince Nelson, Director of the Tax Policy Division, Liberian Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and John David Cooper, Director of Policy and Research at the Sierra Leonean Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources explained how the knowledge gained from FIMES and put into practice enabled the treasuries of their respective countries to generate more tax revenue in the mining sector.

He said FIMES allowed for more informed decisions on tax regimes and to derive value from foreign investment. In South Sudan, the project also helped create opportunities to support economic diversification through increased non-oil investment.

Participants agreed FIMES fortified tax revenues and promoted economic diversification and long-term stability across participating nations, while emerging as a cornerstone for fostering resilience and sustainable development in Africa’s extractive industries amidst global climate challenges.

Yero Baldeh, Director of the Coordinating Office for Transition States, expressed his deep appreciation for the central role of the extractive industry in shaping the growth trajectory of States in transition.

“With dedicated funding from the Transition Support Facility’s targeted support window, the FIMES programme strengthens these economies by addressing revenue leakages, governance mistrusts and institutional gaps,” Baldeh said.

“Improving their financial modelling capabilities is not just about improving transparency and accountability. It is also about creating lasting impact, catalysing private investment and creating space for wealth creation. As we close the programme [at the end of 2023], we proudly celebrate its profound influence in building resilience, developing institutional legitimacy and promoting long-term stability.”

Ghana’s leading digital news platform, GhanaWeb, in conjunction with the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, is embarking on an aggressive campaign which is geared towards ensuring that parliament passes comprehensive legislation to guide organ harvesting, organ donation, and organ transplantation in the country.

‘Nino B’ as he is popularly called, also acknowledged the implication of their decisions on their children.

“May God help me and reward me with all I truly deserve or punish me for all I have done wrong if that be the case. In the end, we will all live with the consequences of our actions. ‘We have been bashed, misquoted, doubted but we did it – McDan on Ada-Songor project

The Chairman of McDan Group, Daniel Mckorley, has recounted the challenges he encountered when the decision was made to revamp the Ada-Songor salt mine at Sege.

According to him, many did not believe the project could be successful.

At the launch of the salt mine and processing unit, he encouraged entrepreneurs to be steadfast and believe in their dreams.

“People asked me questions, and I could see in their eyes the doubt of revamping this project. The question they ask me is, ‘can you do it?’ It sent a wavering fear in my spine. We have been bashed, misquoted, misrepresented, but as a torch bearer I kept focus,” he said at the launch on August 30, 2023.

“Entrepreneurs must be brave to make an impact…, the project is going to change this country and the Ada community as a whole. This is bringing serious economic benefit that the youth will enjoy,” he said.

McDan also noted that the project will employ about 7,000 youth when the final phase is completed.

According to him, the first phase of the project has so far employed 3,000 youth in Sege in the Ada West district.

“As we speak, we have employed 3,000 youth in this place, as we move to Ada East, we are employing 3,000 more. By the end of this project, we are looking at employing 7,000 youth. I have never seen a single project in this country employ so many people like this,” McDan said.
