Accra: Sports Minister Kofi Adams has provided insight into the potential composition of Ghana's final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The announcement has put the spotlight on the goalkeeping unit, as two of the five goalkeepers currently in camp for the upcoming Wales friendly are unlikely to make the final cut.
According to Ghana Web, head coach Carlos Queiroz has named a 28-man squad that includes five goalkeepers: Benjamin Asare, Solomon Agbasi, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Joseph Annag, and Paul Reverson. The squad will need to be trimmed down to 26 players by Monday, June 1, prior to the pre-tournament friendly against Wales scheduled for June 2 at Cardiff City Stadium.
Kofi Adams emphasized the readiness of the team for the World Cup, stating, "We are ready on all fronts for the World Cup." He also highlighted that the reduction in the squad size will likely target the goalkeeping unit. "The coach will have to drop two players from the 28 preliminary players he has called up. The cut of the Black Stars squad from 28 to 26 is likely to come from the goalkeeping unit. They will surely take a cut," Adams explained to TV3.
Following the match against Wales, Ghana is set to face Jamaica in another warm-up game on June 10, which will be part of the final preparations for the tournament.
