Accra: Aspiring National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, has stated that the party lost the 2024 general election partly because of the conduct of some Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) appointed by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. According to him, the behaviour exhibited by some of these CEOs was unacceptable and contributed to the party's electoral defeat.
According to Ghana Web, Titus-Glover specifically cited the former Chief Executive Officer of the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO), Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, as an example. He mentioned that he personally lobbied for Aboagye Gyedu's appointment but expressed disappointment when Aboagye Gyedu allegedly dismissed people he had employed at the state-owned institution.
In an interview on Asempa FM, an excerpt of which has been shared on social media, Titus-Glover claimed that his driver and more than 100 other employees he had helped recruit were dismissed shortly after he left the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council. He recounted how he had to speak with the President to secure the VALCO CEO position for Aboagye Gyedu, only to have those efforts undermined by the latter's actions.
Titus-Glover explained that the opportunity provided by President Akufo-Addo allowed him to employ many individuals, yet he was disheartened to see Aboagye Gyedu terminate their employment soon after he vacated his role. He further remarked on the political implications of these actions, pointing out that VALCO's employment practices have since shifted towards hiring individuals aligned with the opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
