Accra: Mr Justice Dzamefe, representing the newly inaugurated Supreme Court Judges, pledged to deliver justice impartially to all citizens following their swearing-in ceremony conducted by President John Dramani Mahama at the Presidency in Accra. As outlined in Article 144(2) of the Ghanaian Constitution, the appointment marks a significant step in the judicial careers of these seven judges.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Justice Dzamefe, alongside his colleagues Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, Justice Philip Bright Mensah, Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, Justice Janpere Bartels-Kodwo, Justice Hafisata Ameleboba, and Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackah-Boafo, expressed gratitude to the President and pledged to uphold justice without fear or favor. Prior to their elevation to the Supreme Court, all seven judges served on the Court of Appeal.
Justice Dzamefe conveyed their commitment to delivering equal justice under the law, seeking strength, wisdom, and courage from Almighty God to fulfill their duties. He extended thanks to Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie and other Superior Court Judges for their guidance throughout their nomination, vetting, and inauguration process.
Acknowledging the support of friends and family, particularly their spouses and children, Justice Dzamefe reflected on the long journey to their appointment. He noted the anticipation and encouragement from their families, emphasizing the fulfillment of their aspirations with the appointments.
Justice Dzamefe also shared a personal reflection on his children’s inquiries about his appointment, underscoring the importance of patience and timing. He expressed his hope for divine strength in carrying out their judicial responsibilities.
The ceremony was attended by key figures including Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Council of State Chairman Edward Korbly Doe Adjaho, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, as well as members of the General Legal Council, Supreme Court, Association of Magistrates and Judges of Ghana, and Ghana Bar Association.
