Accra: Reverend Victus Hornam, Head Pastor of Goodness City Chapel, has called on fathers to be more responsible, available, and accessible to their families to ensure the proper upbringing of children and the development of society. Speaking during a Father's Day celebration organised by the church, Rev Hornam emphasised that fatherhood extends beyond biological parenthood and requires men to actively support, guide, and provide for their families.
According to Ghana News Agency, Rev Hornam highlighted that some fathers remain physically present at home but are inaccessible to their children, depriving them of necessary counselling, guidance, and emotional support. He urged fathers to make themselves available and accessible to their children, stressing the importance of not isolating themselves from their families.
Rev Hornam described fathers as natural providers and implored men not to abandon their responsibilities towards their wives and children. He emphasized that fathers should not only give birth to children but also provide for their basic needs, including food, shelter, clothing, guidance, and care. He warned that parental irresponsibility often leads to indiscipline and wayward behaviour among children, and he encouraged churches to support vulnerable children and orphans.
He also urged religious leaders to assist children living on the streets by offering care, guidance, and opportunities for a better future. As part of the celebration, the church honoured fathers and presented food items, including bags of rice, to support their families.
Mr Edward Bonney, the President of the Men's Fellowship of Goodness City Chapel, called on Christian fathers to impart godly values in their homes and communities. He stated that many social challenges, including crime, could be reduced if fathers embraced their responsibilities and played active roles in the lives of their children.
Mr Bonney also appealed to churches to support children abandoned by their parents and help them grow in the fear of God. Members of the church board, speaking to journalists, urged fathers to avoid adultery and remain committed to the welfare of their families, emphasizing that fatherhood is not only about providing money but also about training children, supporting mothers, instilling discipline, and serving as positive role models.
Mr Richmond Believer Alormor, Chairman of Goodness City Chapel, stressed that fathers must ensure their children receive proper education and moral guidance to help reduce the number of children living on the streets. He concluded by stating that parenting involves collaboration between fathers and mothers in raising responsible and God-fearing citizens.
