Santrokofi Bume Development Association Commissions New Teacher’s Quarters

Santrokofi: The Santrokofi Bume Development Association (SABUDA) has officially commissioned and handed over the second phase of teacher's quarters to the Santrokofi Bume Basic School. The community-sponsored project, costing GH?125,000, includes a toilet and bath facility and aims to enhance teaching and learning outcomes in the area.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Nathaniel Atikumi, Chairman of the Santrokofi Bume Development Association, highlighted that about 90% of the total project cost was contributed by community members from both within and outside Santrokofi. These contributions were crucial in bringing the project to fruition. The initiative was launched to improve supervision, thereby enhancing students' academic performance and fostering good moral values among them.

Dr. Atikumi urged the facility's users to maintain it diligently to ensure its longevity. He mentioned that a nominal monthly fee would be charged for the facility's upkeep, similar to the arrangements in the first phase. Furthermore, he called on the government to consider designating the Santrokofi Bume Basic School as a model Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Junior High School or Basic School in the district and region. He assured that the community remains ready to support educational advancements.

Mr. Maxwell Richard Letsyor, the Headmaster of the School, described the facility as a crucial step in creating a conducive environment for school staff. He emphasized that quality education thrives when teachers are motivated and comfortable, without the added stress of securing adequate housing. He noted that the facility would help attract and retain dedicated staff, ensuring a stronger sense of community and presence on campus.

Mr. Letsyor also remarked on the teachers' resilience despite previous accommodation challenges, achieving a 100% pass rate in the last academic year. He committed to maintaining a high standard of upkeep for the facility, so it benefits future generations of teachers.

Nana Obibiribi Kumi III, Krontehene of the Santrokofi Traditional Area, highlighted the community's success in undertaking projects like the gravitational water system and nurses' quarters through collaboration and unity. He reiterated his plea for the government to establish a Nursing Training College in Santrokofi to support the Guan District, emphasizing the community's readiness to aid such an initiative.

Mr. Fred Agbenyo, Member of Parliament for the Guan Constituency, praised the project and encouraged similar initiatives across the constituency. He assured that the government is committed to advancing development in the area, especially concerning road networks and educational and telephony projects.

Mr. Godfred Koffie, Guan District Chief Executive (DCE), stated that the Assembly would continue to promote development within the district, highlighting upcoming projects like the construction of modern mechanized boreholes for all communities.
