Accra: Nations FC captain, Razak Simpson remains optimistic about his chances of making Ghana's final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that the final selection process is not yet complete.
According to Ghana Web, Simpson, speaking ahead of Ghana's international friendly against Wales, dismissed suggestions that he has already missed out on a place in the Black Stars squad. He emphasized his focus on training and proving his worth, stating, "Are you sure I'm not going to the World Cup? The final selection is not out."
Despite the prevailing uncertainty, Simpson expressed his determination to continue training and maintain his focus. "Usually, I will not be going to the World Cup. The final selection hasn't come yet, so I'm just hoping. I'm still training, I'm still focused. We'll see. I'll just leave it in God's hands," he added.
The defender acknowledged the intense competition for spots but remains optimistic about his performances securing him a place in coach Carlos Queiroz's final squad. His past involvement in matches, such as the one against Mexico, was highlighted as evidence of his contributions to the team.
"I was part of the Mexico game. We just have to wish them all the best coming tomorrow in the game," he remarked, showing support for his teammates.
Simpson also expressed confidence in the Black Stars' prospects, backing the team to secure victory in their upcoming fixture. "Me, I know they are going to win. After that, then we'll see what happens," he confidently stated.
With the final squad announcement pending, Simpson remains hopeful that his dream of representing Ghana on football's biggest stage will become a reality.
