Accra: Ghanaian rap icon Okyeame Kwame has revealed a series of previously unknown musical collaborations with celebrated highlife singer Kwabena Kwabena. The disclosure came during his 'OK@50' celebration over the weekend, where he marked five decades of life and an enduring music career.
According to Ghana Web, in a heartfelt moment on stage, Okyeame Kwame highlighted Kwabena Kwabena's behind-the-scenes contributions to some of his biggest songs as well as those of other colleagues. These roles had largely gone unnoticed by the public. 'Do you know that this guy sang "wakoy? abo musuo, wakoy? abo musuo wadi kala f?f? bi akyi, wanko ne maame ayie?' he said. 'Do you also know that Kwabena Kwabena was the one who sang the chorus for my song Faithful? He also played the keyboard for Small Small.'
The revelation drew admiration from the audience, as Okyeame Kwame further expressed appreciation for his colleague and friend. 'Kwabena, I love you very much,' he added. Kwabena Kwabena, visibly touched, reciprocated with warm praise for Okyeame Kwame's artistry. He mentioned 'Woara', one of Okyeame Kwame's tracks featuring Raquel, as one of his personal highlights. 'I love you too, my brother. You have done so much for the industry and you're worth celebrating. But there's this song that you did, it blows my mind. I wish it was mine,' he said before breaking into a rendition of the track.
The two musicians later performed Woara together, thrilling guests with their chemistry and shared musical history. The night also featured performances of other hits and a special tribute to highlife legend Daddy Lumba, adding a nostalgic touch to an already memorable celebration.
