Trump Unveils $25 Million Anti-Fraud Whistleblower Incentive Program

Washington:US President Donald Trump has introduced a new whistleblower incentive program designed to reward individuals who provide information leading to the prosecution of those involved in taxpayer fraud.

According to Ghana Web, the initiative, known as the Fraud Whistleblower Incentive Program, was announced at the White House on October 20, 2026. Eligible informants could receive a commission of 1% of the amount recovered, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

The announcement, made in the Oval Office with Vice President JD Vance and independent journalist Nick Shirley present, marks an effort by the Trump administration to intensify the fight against the misuse of public funds. Trump explained that individuals who report fraud could receive commissions based on the amount recovered, such as 1% of $1 billion, if applicable.

Initially, the White House described the initiative as a $25 million program managed by the Department of Justice, offering rewards of up to $30,000 for information leading to successful fraud convictions or significant federal enforcement actions. However, Trump's comments suggested a more flexible reward structure, emphasizing a 1% commission on identified fraud amounts.

The program allows journalists to participate, provided they follow relevant regulations and obtain necessary approvals from their employers. Reports of suspected taxpayer fund theft can be made through the government's fraud reporting website, fraud.gov. Trump also stated he would resolve any disputes over reward payments personally, ensuring fair and prompt decisions.

Vice President JD Vance highlighted that the initiative stemmed from discussions with Trump about incorporating public participation in fraud investigations. The program aims to motivate the public to assist authorities in identifying and prosecuting those responsible for defrauding taxpayers.
