Accra: Myres Manuel Odonkor Junior was crowned champion of the Accra edition of the 1v1 Africa Football Challenge on May 31, after an exciting day of one-on-one football at AIS Astro Turf, East Legon, walking away with the GHS100,000 top prize.
According to Ghana Web, the competition attracted fans who gathered around the turf from early morning. The event delivered fast-paced matches as players showcased their skills, confidence, and composure in a format designed to reward individual brilliance. Odonkor Junior distinguished himself with a series of commanding performances and secured victory in the final, earning the biggest prize of the day.
Opoku Elvis finished second, taking home GHS50,000, while Chris Mensah claimed third place with GHS25,000. Senyo Martin was awarded the Best Goalkeeper prize and received GHS30,000. In total, more than GHS400,000 was distributed among participants during the competition.
The event, hosted by Mr Eazi and supported by Mobike, combined football, entertainment, and community engagement, maintaining a lively atmosphere throughout the day. A standout moment came when popular Ghanaian actor Sulley Sadik faced off against Mr Eazi in a special 1v1 match, captivating the crowd with a light-hearted yet competitive showdown.
The Accra edition followed the competition's initial stop in Lagos, Nigeria. The unique format of 1v1 Africa, focusing on raw football talent, has drawn significant attention. Organisers have announced plans to expand the tournament to more cities across Africa, indicating growing momentum beyond Nigeria.
