Sunyani: The fortunes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in winning the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in the Sunyani East constituency appear brighter, as work on an eight-kilometre asphalt overlay begins in Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital. The Bono Regional Office of the Department of Urban is supervising the work on the government-funded project, which commenced at the Sunyani Central Business District (CBD).
According to Ghana News Agency, drivers, shop owners, storekeepers, and petty traders praised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for reshaping the access roads in the area. Some commercial drivers expressed their joy, stating that the asphalt overlay project had inspired them and renewed their confidence in the NPP.
The drivers mentioned that they were previously dissatisfied with the deteriorating condition of the access roads, which had affected the NPP’s popularity. They believe the ongoing project has rekindled their hopes i
n the government. Traders and shop owners also commended Alhaji Bawumia, the Election 2024 Flagbearer of the NPP, for the asphalt overlay.
Stephen Asare, a storekeeper, remarked that Bawumia’s promise to reshape the CBD roads was initially met with skepticism, but the ongoing work has changed their perspective. Mad Joyce Amankwaa, a petty trader, noted that the timing of the project execution might not be ideal for the NPP but acknowledged that it could increase the party’s votes in the upcoming elections.
Kofi Amponsah, a trader dealing in second-hand clothing at the CBD, highlighted that the project would boost economic activities in the area and commended the government for its efforts. Mrs. Victoria Darkwa, Bono Regional Director of the Department of Urban Roads, mentioned that the asphalt overlay covers 15 kilometres, with work on the remaining seven kilometres set to begin in Odomase, the Sunyani West District capital. She urged residents, traders, and drivers to cooperate with the contractors.
