Accra: Four government agencies have partnered to mark this year’s World Book and Copyright Day with the maiden edition of the “Ghana Book Party,” a mini book festival designed to celebrate literature, honour living legends, and deepen Ghana’s reading culture. The Ghana Library Authority, Creative Arts Agency, Ghana Commission for UNESCO, and the Ghana Publishing Company are jointly hosting the free-entry event, which takes place on April 23, 2026, at the National Children and Mobile Library at Airport, Accra, from 10:00 AM.
According to Ghana Web, the inaugural edition promises a packed programme of fun reading sessions, book exhibitions, dramatic readings, performances, and literary conversations, creating a space for readers, writers, and lovers of literature to converge under one roof. A highlight of the event will be the honouring of four living literary legends on behalf of the Government of Ghana. They are Emeritus Professor Kofi Anyidoho, Professor Martin Okyere Owusu, Professor Lad© Wosornu, and Dr Mawuli Adjei, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to Ghanaian literature.
Literary sessions featuring writer Linda Ampah, poet Apiorkor, and several other voices from Ghana’s creative landscape are also lined up, alongside an exhibition of Ghanaian books. The organisers say the Ghana Book Party is intended not just as a one-day celebration, but as a platform to spark imagination and plant the seeds of a stronger, more sustained reading culture across the country.
