GFA were spending over 1 million dollars for just one Black Stars game – Ex-Sports Minister reveals

Forner Ghana Youth and Sports Minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuye has disclosed that the Black Stars used to spend over $1million on just a game when he took office.

The member of Parliament for the people of Odododiodio constituency is famously remembered for some of the bold decisions he initiated during his tenure in office.

Speaking as a guest on GTV Sports+ on Thursday, Hon Vanderpuye said the entire country will suffer for a long period if we continue to make money the main priority of playing for the senior national team.

According to him, he tried to get rid of the unnecessary spending on Black Stars.

“When we make money the reason for players to play for the Black Stars and not play for pride, then we are going to suffer for long,” he said.

“I tried to stop most of the damning things during my time as a Sports Minister. How can the Black Stars spend over 1 million dollars just for one match?” he quizzed.

Hon Vanderpuye served as the sector minister between 2015 to 2017 during the reign of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The Black Stars will be coming up against sworn rivals Nigeria in the playoff round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month.
