The Morocco Africa supports

The Atlas Lions of Morocco will be flying the African flag once again in the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar as the only African National team standing. All the five African National teams came to the ongoing FIFA World Cup as underdogs however the Moroccan National team has become the dark horse of the global competition. All the African National teams representing the continent in the competition received massive support from all African nations. The Atlas Lions of Morocco has been praised across Africa for giving Africa a good representation at the ongoing FIFA World Cup Competition. The Moroccan National team stands the chance of becoming the greatest African team in World Cup history and this is something the entire African continent are praying and wishing for Morocco.

Indeed, there is more to this massive African support and goodwill than the outstanding performance of the Moroccan National team at the World Cup which is flying high the flag of Africa. Africa’s commitment to and interest in Morocco are by no means a coincidence; nor are they the result of transient considerations. They reflect a sense of loyalty to a shared history and illustrate our firm belief that ours is a common destiny.

The Kingdom of Morocco has always been at the forefront of the Africa liberation advocacy. Morocco has been very proactive in addressing African challenges since 1960s. Morocco’s King Mohammed V played decisive roles in the formation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now African Union (AU). Since its independence, the Kingdom has been a breeding ground for the development of the Pan-African collective consciousness. In addition to Morocco having hosted the first conference dedicated to African unity, the founding father of Morocco, King Mohammed V played major role in favor of many African liberation movements who found Morocco the appropriate conditions to lead their fight in favor for freedom and emancipation.

Likewise, the Casablanca Conference, which was held at the kind initiative of Morocco’s King Mohammed V, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and King Mohammed V, were the first to defend the idea of African unity. Hence laying the foundations for common African action and allowing a harmonization of visions and coordination of efforts to assure the African people the conditions for a dignified life, free from fear and oppression. The participants in this historic meeting harbored the ambition of a new era that of an emancipated Africa, free and resolutely turned towards the future.

Even before Morocco reclaimed its natural place within its African family, its relations with Africa countries and its involvement in matters of the continent’s interest never ceased. Morocco has longstanding and excellent relations with a number of its neighboring African countries. Morocco’s engagement in Africa focuses on security cooperation, economic development, strengthening cultural ties, and capacity building. The Kingdom’s commitment entails the exchange of experiences and expertise in sectors that are of importance to the socio-economic development of the African societies. Security assistance forms an essential component of Morocco’s pivot to African countries. Morocco’s reconnection with its continent Africa is not limited only to business contracts and official visits; many of Morocco’s economic initiatives over the last few years have been launched with an important social dimension in mind. Over the last 20 years in particular, Morocco has adopted several initiatives to show solidarity with its African sister countries.

The Atlas Lions of Morocco will now face Portugal in the quarter-final stage on Saturday,10th December, 2022.

He explained, “Ayoba has this entwined encryption on the inside which is important and it is also encrypted in the server side and we are trying to also educate our users about the problems and risks in the digital world.”

Besides the communication, content creation, and opportunity for SMEs, users can also use the MTN Ayoba App to do Mobile Money transactions.

Akufo-Addo commission projects at Takoradi?port

The occasion also saw the President cutting sod for projects like the Oil and Gas Services Terminal and the Prime Meridian Docks Floating Dry Dock and Ship maintenance facility.

The President said these interventions would not only enhance cargo handling at the Port of Takoradi, but also improve the turnaround time and meet the demands of players in the oil and gas and maritime trade space.

President Akufo-Addo said the government had an avowed commitment to position the Port as a key growth pole to increase economic activities, ensure growth and development.

“We also believe in diversifying the role of the Port from export activities and thus the huge private sector investment and participation to achieve this milestone and solve challenges in the oil and gas space.”

The President said the primacy of the Private sector to spur economic growth had become critical and appreciated the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority (GPHA) for partnering with the businesses to achieve the feat that would advance economic resilience.

Mr.  Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, the Minister for Transport, said investment through Public-Private Partnership into the Port stood at half a billion dollars since 2014 and had made the Takoradi port a competitive entity not only in the subregion promoting real time maritime activities.

He said the government would continue to create the enabling environment for indigenous businesses, who want to partner the government to advance.

The transport minister did not mix words in lauding the ingenuity of the Port of Takoradi for buying into the government’s vision, which had resulted in the achievement of such huge economically viable and beneficial projects.

He said, “we are happy as a port to have these facilities but what we earnestly need is the fixing of the Western Rail Lines to ensure efficiency of our operations”.

The Director-General of the GPHA praised the government for ICUMS, and the paperless activities introduced which had become a benchmark for other countries to emulate.

Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Regional Minister, recalled how the President had been committed to the transformation of the Port since his visit in 2008 to the Port of Takoradi.

He was thus enthused that the President was back to commission two new projects and cut sod for two describing it as phenomenal.

The Western Regional Minister added that the Port was also estimated to receive some 30,000 tourists next year with a rippling effect on all aspect of the economy.

The Atlantic Terminal Services is part of the container and multipurpose terminal concession partnership between GPHA, Ibistek Limited and AFC-equity of the Africa Finance Corporation.

The facility provides a 600-metre quay wall at (-16) water depth along berths with a space of 9.8 hectares.

Government outlines 10 strategic sectors for economic growth, prosperity

The sectors had investments as the engine of growth with the focus on foreign exchange and foreign direct investment (FDIs) through export promotion.

Mr Alan Kyerematen, Minister for Trade and Industry, said this at the 3rd Annual Investment Week 2022, organised by the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA).

The event which was dubbed: “GFZA: Championing Export-led Industrial Growth in the Context of AfCFTA and World Trade,” was to discuss and improve operations of the Authority and address challenges of enterprises under free zones.

The forum also put across policies that that would positively impact the operations of the enterprises.

Mr Kyerematen, in his address said the Agro, Petrochemical, Bauxite and Aluminum, Iron and Steel, Automotive Assembly and Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical industries and Industrial Chemical were the sectors.

The rest were  Garments and Textile, Manufacturing of Electronic and Electrical Appliances and the Manufacturing of Machinery and Equipment industries.

Key areas to be developed under the agro industry would be oil palm, rice processing, poultry, fruits and juices with value addition being the driving force.

Having had some automobile companies to establish vehicle assembling plants in the country, the Minister said a component manufacturing policy would soon be out to help localise component manufacturing.

He said the garments and textiles industry was yet to be fully harnessed as done in Bangladesh with a 30 US$ billion earnings from export yearly.

Ghana is one of the few countries ( Senegal, Namibia, Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania) with volumes of industrial salts and with a capacity to mine three million tons annually.

Ghana could serve as a huge market for the petrochemical industry, however, she is mining less than 150, 000 tons.

“We want to rebuild our economy with these strategic sectors which we believe can diversify our economy away from cocoa and gold,” he said.

He said: “There is the need to promote exports as a nation now more than ever. I invite both foreign and domestic investment community to look at these sectors.”

Minority vow to chart non-cooperative path with finance minister after failed censure motion

The Minority after losing the vote of censure against the finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has declared it will be charting a non-cooperative path with the sector minister.

According to the Minority, all its 136 members will not cooperate with the finance minister on the floor of parliament.

The Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, announced the Minority’s decision in an interview on Accra-based Joy FM on Friday, December 9, 2022.

“The finance minister in all his deliberations on the floor will be hit by a snag as the Minority will not cooperate with him,” he said.

He warned the battle lines were drawn when the Majority chose to run away from the measures to have the minister removed for mismanaging the economy.

The Banda Constituency MP in the Bono Region explained that this is the decision of the Minority to deal with the finance minister going forward.

The Majority on Thursday, December 8, 2022, walk out leaving only 136 MPs on the floor, thus, the minority caucus failed to garner the at least two-thirds majority of votes (183) needed to have succeeded in removing Mr Ofori-Atta from office for mismanaging the economy among others.

Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Mensah led the walk-out.

He said his caucus could not support a baseless and politically motivated motion of the minority caucus birthed out of bad faith and aimed at embarrassing the president’s cousin.

“You want us to follow you on this misadventure. Mr Speaker, like Pontius Pilate did, we will wash our hands of this,” he said on the floor of parliament just before his side walked out of the chamber.

Mr Ofori-Atta, in his defence, said: “If I say I am innocent they will not believe me and if I ask for the truth and proof, they will not be able to provide that.”

“I have committed no crime,” Mr Ofori-Atta said.

When he appeared before an ad hoc committee that investigated the allegations against him some three weeks ago, Mr Ofori-Atta apologised to the people of Ghana for the economic hardships they are going through.

Love him or hate him, Asiedu Nketia is NDCs best bet for the position of National Chairman – Ras Mubarak

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak has thrown his weight behind Johnson Asiedu Nketia in the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) elections.

In his view, the long-serving General Secretary is the best bet to lead the NDC to victory in the 2024 general election as the party’s National Chairman.

“Love him or loathe him, Johnson Asiedu Nketia is our best bet for the position of National Chairman.

“The argument against Mr. Nketia is that he’s been around for so long. That is a fact. But so has his main contender. The fact is in politics, you cannot throw away experience.

“Asiedu Nketia is not susceptible to manipulation. You simply cannot get him to join you to do the wrong thing,” parts of a statement by Ras Mubarak on his Facebook said on Thursday.

He argued that with the courage of Asiedu Nketia, victory will be guaranteed for the NDC to wrestle power from the ruling New Patriotic Party.

“The next presidential election would be a fight for the heart and soul of our country. You need a party Chairman who knows the opponent inside out. The current government has messed up so badly, they would do everything- including using the corrupt elements in the police, military and other security agencies to subvert the will of the people as they did in the 2020 election.

“Asiedu is courageous. As party chairman he would deliver,” Ras Mubarak added in his statement.

In the upcoming National Congress of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia is seeking to unseat incumbent National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.

Although there are other candidates, the two are expected to be the main contenders.
