Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak has thrown his weight behind Johnson Asiedu Nketia in the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) elections.

In his view, the long-serving General Secretary is the best bet to lead the NDC to victory in the 2024 general election as the party’s National Chairman.

“Love him or loathe him, Johnson Asiedu Nketia is our best bet for the position of National Chairman.

“The argument against Mr. Nketia is that he’s been around for so long. That is a fact. But so has his main contender. The fact is in politics, you cannot throw away experience.

“Asiedu Nketia is not susceptible to manipulation. You simply cannot get him to join you to do the wrong thing,” parts of a statement by Ras Mubarak on his Facebook said on Thursday.

He argued that with the courage of Asiedu Nketia, victory will be guaranteed for the NDC to wrestle power from the ruling New Patriotic Party.

“The next presidential election would be a fight for the heart and soul of our country. You need a party Chairman who knows the opponent inside out. The current government has messed up so badly, they would do everything- including using the corrupt elements in the police, military and other security agencies to subvert the will of the people as they did in the 2020 election.

“Asiedu is courageous. As party chairman he would deliver,” Ras Mubarak added in his statement.

In the upcoming National Congress of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia is seeking to unseat incumbent National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.

Although there are other candidates, the two are expected to be the main contenders.
