Sekondi-takoradi: Zoomlion Ghana Limited has initiated a comprehensive fumigation and disinfection exercise across flood-affected areas in the Western Region. The exercise aims to prevent outbreaks of diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and malaria following recent flooding. It is part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and forms a crucial part of its nationwide emergency response to address flood-related health hazards and safeguard public health.
According to Ghana News Agency, the initiative commenced simultaneously in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis and the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality. It will target all other Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) in the region. Mr. Patrick Akorful, Western Regional Manager of Zoomlion, in an interview at the commencement of the exercise, appealed for community support to ensure the success of the initiative. "We are appealing to the public to cooperate with our teams when the team gets to their communities and facilities. This is a free emergency exercise, and our ultimate objective is to protect the health of the people," he stated.
Mr. Abraham Rex Kotobebi, Assembly Member for Cassava Farm Electoral Area in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, commended Zoomlion for the timely initiative, noting that it directly complemented the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly's ongoing efforts to maintain a safe environment. Mr. Benjamin Baah, Western Regional Environmental Health Analyst, described the exercise as comprehensive and critical to bolstering the region's overall preventive health measures.
Madam Grace Mensah, a resident of Kwesimintsim, expressed relief as the spraying teams moved through stagnant water sites and public areas. "Seeing the Zoomlion team here spraying the surroundings gives us peace of mind. We are very grateful for this quick response," she stated.
