Zeepay Promises Smooth Transition After Loss of Banking Licence

Accra: Zeepay Ghana Limited has assured its customers, agents, merchants, and business partners of a smooth and transparent transition following the Bank of Ghana's revocation of its Dedicated Electronic Money Issuer (DEMI) Licence. The central bank took this action immediately on July 14, 2026, citing multiple regulatory breaches and the company's ongoing non-compliance with regulatory directives and the terms of its licence, under Section 13 of the Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019 (Act 987).

According to Ghana News Agency, a statement released by Zeepay in Accra on Wednesday emphasized that the company is collaborating closely with the central bank and other relevant stakeholders to ensure a responsible transition process. Zeepay acknowledged the concerns that have arisen due to the licence revocation and expressed gratitude to its customers, employees, agents, merchants, business partners, and the public for their patience, understanding, and continued cooperation.

Zeepay has committed to 'acting responsibly, maintaining open and transparent communication, and working constructively with the Bank of Ghana towards an orderly resolution.' The company also assured that further verified updates would be communicated through its official channels as they become available.

Zeepay Ghana Limited offers digital payment, mobile wallet, and cross-border remittance services through partnerships with mobile money operators, financial institutions, and international remittance companies. The company stated its intention to continue cooperating with the regulator and relevant stakeholders to ensure an orderly resolution of the matter and to keep the public informed through its official communication channels.
