Tema, Young people are the backbone of a society therefore empowering, strengthening and including them in decision making processes, will attract national development, Ms Lilian Sally Addo, Country Head, United Nations Youth Association, Ghana, has said. According to her, the youth could contribute greatly to the success of every dispensation, hence the need to be provided with the needed support to outdoor their potentials through involvement in decision making.

Mrs Addo was speaking at the Expo 2020 in Dubai on strategies to be put in place to help the youth develop in wisdom, to be able to be allowed in the decision-making process, in a virtual programme made available to the Ghana News Agency in Tema at the weekend.

Expo 2020 is a world Expo, currently hosted by Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, which started from October 1st, 2021 to March 31st, 2022.

She said the youth of today must be encouraged to be interested in decision making process, saying, “a nation cannot do without its youth”.

She charged the youth to place value on themselves and aspire to be the change in their communities, which will have positive effect on their countries.

Mrs Addo who is also the President of Humanitarian Reachout Foundation International, said the youth must endeavour to make every moment count towards national development and desist from mere criticisms.

“Take advantage of the resources around you to be empowered. It is not okay or enough for young persons to sit down and criticize when they themselves are not doing anything,” she stated.

She said the youth must learn to take constructive criticisms and be part of decision making for positive change, and strive for development rather than sit on the fence.

“When you are part of the change through positive impact, then you can criticise the wrong that all of us are doing, to encourage each other to do more,” she said.
