You Will Be Captured on Video for Any Shoddy Work – Agbodza Warns Contractors

Savannah region: The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has issued a stern warning to contractors to avoid engaging in substandard work, as only quality roads will be accepted under the government's extensive infrastructure initiative. He emphasized that the era of inferior road projects has come to an end.

According to Ghana Web, Agbodza made these remarks during a citizens' engagement event at Ndewura Jakpa Senior High School in the Savannah Region on May 23, 2026. He highlighted the role of citizens as vigilant overseers of development projects, using their mobile phones to document and share footage of ongoing work. This citizen-driven surveillance exposes contractors who try to present misleading reports that do not align with the actual on-ground conditions.

Agbodza pointed out that citizens are even reporting details such as the number of workers on construction sites, making it difficult for contractors to rely on deceptive documentation. He stated, "No contractor working on any road in the country or Savannah will be tolerated for doing shoddy work. Today, interestingly, in the Savannah Region, citizens have decided to take their mobile phones and record everything that every contractor is doing."

The minister added that citizens have been sending this information to both President Mahama and himself, thereby preventing contractors from submitting inaccurate reports. He noted that monitoring mechanisms have been implemented to ensure that every road project delivers long-term value for money.

This firm stance is part of the government's Big Push Agenda, a key initiative aimed at transforming Ghana's infrastructure landscape. The agenda seeks to modernize road networks, bridge rural and urban economies, and ensure efficient use of public funds. It also emphasizes citizen accountability and utilizing technology to monitor contractors, with a focus on regional development in underserved areas, such as the Savannah Region.
