Yaw Ampofo Ankrah Defers Parliament Appearance Amid CID Probe

Sanaa:Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the former Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has postponed his appearance before Parliament due to an ongoing investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.

According to Ghana Web, Mr. Ampofo Ankrah's legal counsel, Jerry Avenorgbor of Brookman Amissah and Associates, issued a statement explaining that Mr. Ampofo Ankrah and his representatives will avoid making detailed public comments regarding the allegations during the ongoing investigation.

The statement emphasized Mr. Ampofo Ankrah's cooperation with investigators, noting that he will continue to assist the authorities in establishing facts and resolving the matter. Furthermore, his legal team urged the public and media to refrain from presenting unverified information as established facts, stressing that an investigation does not amount to a finding of wrongdoing against Mr. Ampofo Ankrah or anyone else.

The legal team stated that appearing before Parliament could potentially interfere with the CID investigation. They also highlighted that Mr. Ampofo Ankrah remains suspended, making it imprudent for him to address Parliament on matters related to the investigation. The decision is aimed at preserving the investigation's integrity and avoiding any actions that might compromise the process.

The statement clarified that Mr. Ampofo Ankrah is willing to appear before Parliament or another competent authority once his suspension is lifted, and he is reinstated as NSA Director-General, pending the discretion of the Office of the President. Until the investigation concludes and findings are announced, all substantive public commentary will be paused.
