Akufo-Addo’s Reaction to Addai-Nimo’s 2014 NPP Primary Challenge Revealed

Accra:Former Asante Mampong Member of Parliament, Ing Francis Addai-Nimo, has disclosed that former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was displeased with his decision to challenge him in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries in 2014.

According to Ghana Web, Addai-Nimo, who spoke during an interview on Neat FM on October 26, 2026, shared that Akufo-Addo confronted him with questions about his challenge, reportedly asking, "Who dares you, Addai-Nimo, to contest Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2014 primaries? Who are you?"

Addai-Nimo explained that he was the only aspirant at the time who had not been appointed to a government position during former President John Agyekum Kufuor's tenure. Despite the perceived hostility, he later joined Akufo-Addo’s campaign after losing the primaries.

He highlighted how individuals could be underestimated when not holding influential positions, stating, "If someone doesn't know you, the person looks down on you."

Addai-Nimo also recounted a moment during a campaign tour in the Upper East Region when Akufo-Addo acknowledged his efforts by shaking his hand and commending him. Akufo-Addo went on to win the 2016 presidential election and served two terms as President of Ghana, concluding his tenure in January 2025.
