Accra: Former Nigerian striker Yakubu Ayegbeni has declared Nwankwo Kanu as his number one choice among African football players, placing him ahead of other legendary figures such as Samuel Eto'o and George Weah.
According to Ghana Web, Yakubu made this revelation during an appearance on the Club House Podcast, where he discussed his admiration for Kanu's exceptional qualities and his remarkable ability to perform consistently at the highest level of football. 'Kanu is my number one all-time African player,' Yakubu stated, emphasizing the impact and legacy left by the Nigerian legend.
The former Premier League star also expressed high regard for Cameroonian forward Samuel Eto'o, whom he ranked second on his list. He praised Eto'o for his leadership, versatility, and extraordinary goalscoring skills, highlighting his successful stints with top clubs like Barcelona and Inter Milan, where he won the UEFA Champions League. 'He is one of the best African players. He is a leader and he can play different positions,' Yakubu remarked.
Rounding out Yakubu's top three was Liberia's George Weah, the only African player to have won the prestigious Ballon d'Or award.
