Sofokrom: The Western Regional Directorate of the Foods and Drugs Authority (FDA) has safely disposed of 1.5 metric tonnes of seized goods at the landfill site in Sofokrom. Mr. Francis Edem Odum, Principal Officer, stated that the post-market surveillance led to the seizure of non-compliant products, including substandard, falsified, and expired items.
According to Ghana News Agency, the seized goods were valued at 100,000 cedis and represented only the third quarter of the year 2025. Mr. Odum urged manufacturers to register their goods with the Authority and encouraged retailers to demand proper documentation from manufacturers. He advised them to consistently check for expired products on their shelves.
Mr. Odum emphasized the importance of looking out for the registration certificate for both local and imported goods. He mentioned that there are administrative and spot fines, along with prosecution in some cases, and advised manufacturers to adhere to proper procedures in the supply chain. The FDA, he noted, would continue its post-market surveillance activities to protect consumer health.
Mr. Solomon Kwabena Boni, Public Relations Officer of the Western Regional FDA, highlighted that the Authority is mandated by Public Health to conduct such exercises to safeguard consumer health. He added that the 'Love Your Health' campaign by the Authority aims to provide extensive education and sensitization to protect public health.
