Kumasi: Political analyst, Dr. Kwasi Amakye-Boateng, has urged caution over public appeals to President John Dramani Mahama regarding the 20-year prison sentence imposed on NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, insisting that any request for intervention should be handled discreetly.
According to Ghana Web, Dr. Amakye-Boateng, speaking on Angel FM in Kumasi, emphasized that matters involving potential presidential intervention in judicial issues should not be conducted through public pressure campaigns but through quiet engagement with respected figures. He advised that if the President is being asked to intervene, it should be done quietly and through dialogue with elders who can facilitate discussions behind the scenes.
Dr. Amakye-Boateng highlighted the importance of protecting the separation of powers among the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary to maintain public confidence in the justice system. He explained that while these government branches are related in their constitutional functions, they must remain independent in executing their responsibilities.
He further stressed that the Judiciary must be objective and free from bias to deliver fair judgments, warning that compromising judicial independence and impartiality would severely damage public trust in the courts. Dr. Amakye-Boateng cautioned that if the Judiciary fails to maintain these critical elements, it risks losing its integrity and effectiveness.
