Accra: A woman identified as Hagar and captured in a viral video being assaulted by alleged field officers of Bills Micro-Credit, has recounted her ordeal. The disturbing video, which has since sparked public outrage, shows the woman being manhandled by four men believed to be officials of the microfinance institution.
According to Ghana Web, the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding over a loan repayment. Hagar explained that she had taken a loan of GH?10,000 and had been making weekly payments of GH?1,050 for three months. She was under the impression that she had completed her payments, unaware of an outstanding balance of GH?300.
Hagar recounted how the officers confronted her at her place of business, demanding the remaining payment. Despite her insistence that she had already paid, the officers persisted, leading to a tense confrontation. Hagar described how one officer took her phone and, after she requested its return, threw it to the ground, damaging it.
The situation escalated when Hagar attempted to retrieve her phone, resulting in a physical altercation where she and her baby were pushed to the ground. She sustained injuries in the fall and was ultimately rescued by bystanders who intervened.
Following the incident, the four men captured in the video have been arrested by the Kwabenya District Police Command. A police statement, signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, confirmed that the suspects-Denis Wornyo, 38; Albert Amarh, 40; Ebenezer Amartei, 23; and Atsu Lawson, 27-are under investigation for their actions.
