Winter Weather Temporarily Shuts Down Vienna Airport

Vienna: Vienna Airport temporarily suspended operations on Friday, as a heavy snowfall has led to numerous flight cancellations and delays. Only a few take-offs and landings are expected during the course of the morning, an airport spokesperson told the APA news agency. Around 20 centimetres of snow fell overnight.

According to Ghana News Agency, winter road maintenance services have been in continuous operation since Thursday evening. Around 1,000 truckloads with a total of around 15,000 tons of snow have been cleared so far. There were also major problems on the motorways, with an important expressway on the outskirts of the Austrian capital being closed temporarily.

The heavy overnight snowfall has led to disruptions at Munich's airport as well. Departures and arrivals may be delayed or cancelled, the airport announced on its website on Friday.
