Maa yaa: The widow of the late taxi driver Kwesi Dada, who was allegedly shot dead by a policewoman on January 19, 2026, has broken her silence over her husband's sudden death.
According to Ghana Web, Maa Yaa recounted the day's events leading to the tragic incident. She mentioned that on the day of the incident, she had bid farewell to her husband as she left for her shop while he went to check on his car. Speaking to Ghana Web journalist Victoria Kyei Baffour on January 22, 2026, she detailed her last interactions with her husband, expressing the normalcy of their day until the tragedy unfolded.
Maa Yaa shared that around 4 p.m., she called her husband to discuss dinner plans, only for him to suggest that they eat without him. Later in the evening, around 8 p.m., she reached out again, inquiring about the status of the car repairs, to which he responded that they were nearly finished. She recounted being awakened by a phone call at 2 a.m. from someone at their old residence, informing her of an issue involving her husband at the Tetegu Police Station.
Upon arriving at the police station, Maa Yaa was questioned by an officer and informed that her husband had been arrested, with instructions to return at 8 a.m. to see him. The following morning, she received the devastating news from her brother that her husband had been shot dead multiple times.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed that it is investigating the fatal shooting incident involving a policewoman, which occurred on January 19, 2026, at Tetegu near Weija in the Greater Accra Region. According to a statement issued on January 20, 2026, preliminary investigations suggest that the policewoman allegedly shot the taxi driver following a confrontation.
The statement from the police revealed that the taxi driver, operating a Hyundai i10, was rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival. It also disclosed that the policewoman sustained injuries to her head and both legs after being struck by a vehicle as she attempted to leave the scene and is currently receiving medical attention.
Exhibits recovered from the scene included one live 9mm round, a magazine, and one empty 9mm cartridge. The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
