Agona-nkwanta: The New Patriotic Party's (NPP) delegates in the Western Region have elected a new set of executives to reorganise the party's base ahead of the 2028 general election.
According to Ghana News Agency, the delegates delivered a verdict that signalled both change and continuity in the party's regional leadership structure in preparation for the 2028 elections. Four incumbents contested their positions and lost, six did not contest, while only one retained their position.
At the end of the polls, Mr Ignatius Kwasi Afrifa secured the Chairmanship position with 265 votes, defeating his contender, Mr Abdul Ganiyu Mohammed, who received 102 votes. Mr Ignatius Asaah Mensah won the First Vice Chairmanship by gaining 205 votes against Mr James Obeng Jnr, who garnered 161 votes.
The Second Vice Chairmanship race was claimed by Mr Francis Abeiku Yankah with 193 votes, surpassing Madam Abena Kwallah, who received 152 votes, and Madam Monica Buadu, who gathered 22 votes. The Secretary position was fiercely contested, with Mr Kwasi Bonzoh sweeping 211 votes to defeat the incumbent, Mr Okatakyie Amankwaa Afrifa, who polled 157 votes.
In the race for Deputy Secretary, Mr Lawrence Kojo Appiah Takyi polled 157 votes to win the position against Mr Malik Haclik Botchwey, who received 106 votes, Mr Anthony Annor, who had 25 votes, and Mr Thomas Amoah, who secured 80 votes. Mr Amoabeng Owusu Acheampong retained his position as the Organiser with 181 votes against Mr Frederick Korankye, who polled 143 votes, and Mr Simon Amoah, who had 44 votes.
For the Treasurer position, Nana Adjoa Appiah garnered 202 votes to win against her contender, Mr James Kainyiah Asiedu, who polled 166 votes. The incumbent Women's Organiser, Madam Josephine Yaa Odoom, lost by 173 votes to Madam Augustina Nketsiah, who had 193 votes.
Mr Osagyefo Attiah Kwaw won the Youth Organiser position with 197 votes against his contenders Mr Prince Kuntu-Blankson, Mr Frederick Kumah, and Mr Boadi Augustine Minlah, who garnered 100, four, and 67 votes, respectively. The incumbent Nasara Organiser, Alhaji Labib Imam Ali, lost his position by 177 votes to Mr Adam Harun Ahmed, who polled 190 votes.
Mr Issah Fuseini also lost his position as the Communication Officer with 152 votes to Mr Emmanuel Acquah Essah, who won with 212 votes, also beating Mr David Ackah-Miezah, who managed four votes.
Mr Ignatius Kwasi Afrifa, the new Chairman, speaking after the election at Agona-Nkwanta in the Ahanta West Municipality, stated his commitment to prioritising unity among the party's members in the region to enhance their chances of success in the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections. He expressed his intent to serve as a unifier and pledged to work diligently with the other executives to reorganise the party's grassroots base, aiming to recapture all lost parliamentary seats in the region by 2028.
