Sefwi bodi: Dr Paulina Clara Appiah, Western North Regional Director of Health Service, has announced plans by the Directorate to roll out an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP). The initiative, she explained, was designed to safeguard the emotional and mental well-being of employees to enhance productivity and improve service delivery.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Appiah shared this development at the opening of the Directorate's 2025 Annual Performance Review, held at Sefwi Bodi. The event, themed 'Operationalising Free Primary Health Care as the Platform to Improve Quality of Care and Address the Critical Gaps in NCD's, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Care,' brought together major stakeholders and partners to evaluate past activities and discuss future achievements and prospects.
Dr Appiah highlighted that free primary healthcare is one of the government's flagship interventions aimed at accelerating progress towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The region plans to adopt the life course approach in health service delivery to meet this target.
'This means we will deliberately ensure that health interventions are provided at every stage of life, from pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and old age,' she stated. The strategy not only focuses on treating diseases but also emphasizes early prevention and reducing complications, ensuring that no one is left behind.
Dr Appiah noted that this approach aligns with the health sector's medium-term development plan, which seeks to increase access to quality essential healthcare and population-based services for all by 2030. She expressed gratitude to the staff, partners, and stakeholders for their dedication to improving health service delivery in the region.
Acknowledging the challenges faced, Dr Appiah cited the absence of regional medical stores as a significant issue. She appealed to the government and relevant stakeholders to address this problem to enhance healthcare delivery in the region.
