Damongo: Mr. Castro Yakubu Yussif, the West Gonja Municipal Chief Executive, has called on leaders at all levels to demonstrate integrity, transparency, and accountability to restore and strengthen public trust in government.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Yussif emphasized that building a just, prosperous, peaceful, and united Ghana requires collective efforts to strengthen the economy, improve governance, and renew the confidence of citizens in leadership. He made these remarks at a ceremony organized by the West Gonja Municipal Assembly to mark this year's Independence Day celebrations, which featured a march-past parade involving school children at Damongo in the Savannah Region.
The event brought together traditional leaders, the clergy, heads of institutions, security services, political party representatives, and students to celebrate the nation's 69th Independence anniversary. Pupils and students from 15 schools, including kindergarten, primary, and junior high levels, participated in the parade, showcasing discipline and patriotism.
Mr. Yussif noted that the national theme, 'Building Prosperity and Restoring Hope,' serves as a reminder that independence requires continuous commitment and responsibility from every citizen. He highlighted development projects in the municipality, mentioning that the area has been designated for the establishment of two universities and a Girls' Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Senior High School.
Additionally, Mr. Yussif pointed out that ongoing projects include the construction of three three-unit classroom blocks and three Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at various locations within the municipality. He urged pupils and students to take their education seriously, embrace discipline, patriotism, and hard work, while avoiding actions that could jeopardize their future.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Yussif appealed to members of the public to avoid divisive language and actions, and instead promote dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect to strengthen national unity.
