Wear safety kits, regulate motor speed — Graduates urged

Reverend Father Selorm S. Mereku, an Anglican Priest has urged Junior High School (JHS) graduates in the Kpando Municipality to ensure that they were properly clothed before riding motorbikes popularly referred to as “Okada”.

Rev Mereku who is also the Chairman of the Kpando Local Council of Churches admonished them to put on their helmets, safety shoes and riding jackets to prevent or minimise the level of injuries during any unforeseen situations and avoid unnecessary speeding which could end their lives.

Rev Mereku said this at this year’s edition of Ebenezer Praise for BECE candidates and the youth from both public and private as they transit from childhood to adulthood was themed: “Okada and the Youth: The Role of the Police” and attended by over 800 graduates.

He however said none of the graduates was qualified to ride on the road since one must attain the ages of 18 and above and must acquire a genuine driving or riding license before permitted to ply the road.

Rev Mereku said the graduates who would ply the road must pay attention to road signs, other motorists, ride safely, and wish them the best in their endeavours.

He made inferences from Psalm 46:10a “Be Still and Know That I am God,” and called on them to live a life of worship, a life of prayer, a life worthy of emulation, a thankful life as they awaited their results.

Mr Divine Kwame Gati, Kpando Municipal Director of Social Welfare, advised the graduates to focus on their education whilst they were waiting for their results.

He commended the organisers and said such programmes should continue yearly as well as encouraged the schools in Kpando to have established club activities.

The event was organised by the Open Dove Children Foundation (ODCEF), a Non-for-profit making Organization formed by one Evangelist Ansah of the Methodist Church, Ghana in the Kpando Municipality.

The Foundation aimed at educating and sensitising Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates after their successful completion, has over the years organised educative talks, seminars and praises, and worship for the candidates.
