Accra: In an unusual twist to a programme on domestic issues on Lawson TV, a police officer was deployed to pick up a man for defiling a 14-year-old girl. The incident unfolded in a snippet from a Lawson TV show sighted by GhanaWeb on July 3, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, the widely circulated video shows a 51-year-old man openly admitting to having sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl, insisting that the act was consensual. Speaking during the live broadcast, the man lamented, "I merely slept with the 14-year-old, I didn't rape her," claiming that the child "agreed to his demand" before the act.
His remarks drew immediate condemnation, as the laws of this country clearly define sexual activity with minors as defilement and a criminal offense, punishable by imprisonment. A police officer was summoned to the studio to swiftly effect the arrest of the suspect while the programme was ongoing.
The host of the program thanked the Ghana Police Service for their prompt response, emphasizing the importance of protecting children from exploitation. The man is expected to be put before a court to face charges of defilement. Authorities have reiterated that any sexual act involving minors constitutes defilement, regardless of claims of consent.
