Accra: Musician and activist Wanlov the Kubolor has criticised the act of passing the anti-LGBT bill, questioning the priorities of a country he says is battling far more urgent crises. In a series of posts on X on May 31, 2026, that have since gone viral, the outspoken entertainer pointed out a series of pressing issues which should be addressed in the country.
According to Ghana Web, Wanlov the Kubolor highlighted the dire state of essential services in Ghana, mentioning “poor hospitals, dangerous roads, poisoned rivers, corruption, woman abuse, and child abuse” as important issues that need immediate attention. He expressed bewilderment over the nation’s decision to prioritize the anti-LGBT bill, describing it as an ‘expired law’ inherited from Western legal traditions that have now been abandoned in their countries of origin.
Wanlov alleged that political and financial incentives are driving the legislation, suggesting that the passage of the bill was motivated by ‘coins and position.’ This bill, widely condemned by international human rights organizations since its passage, has ignited debates both within Ghana and among the diaspora. Supporters argue that it reflects Ghanaian cultural and religious values, while critics insist it criminalizes identity and exacerbates harm against an already vulnerable community.
