Accra: The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of candidates who sat the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates. The Council withheld the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools and cancelled the entire results of 105 candidates alongside the subject results of 496 candidates due to examination irregularities.
According to Ghana News Agency, the details of this development were contained in a statement issued by Mr. John K. Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC. The statement elaborated that the Council had also withheld the entire results of 48 candidates and the subject results of 119 candidates pending the outcome of ongoing investigations. The statement indicated, "The withheld results may be cancelled or released based on the outcome of investigations by August 31, 2026."
WAEC explained that these decisions were made following investigations into cases of examination irregularities detected during the exam and the marking of scripts. The decisions were officially approved at the 37th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners' Appointment Committee for the BECE, 2026, held on July 21, 2026.
The Council has advised candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld to visit [WAEC's irregularity information page](http://irreg.waecgh.gh) for details on their specific cases. The candidates will be redirected to a page that displays the reasons for withholding or cancelling the results. For withheld results, candidates will be informed of the next steps to take.
Heads of schools and proprietors can follow a similar procedure to determine the status of withheld results for their candidates using their results listing logins. WAEC also cautioned candidates and the public against individuals who claim they can upgrade examination results for a fee, emphasizing that "WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated."
The Council stated that the results of school candidates would be dispatched to their respective schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education. Candidates wishing to access their results online can do so through the Council's official results portal. A total of 620,243 candidates, comprising 304,415 males and 315,828 females from 20,789 schools, registered for the examination, with 3,601 candidates reported absent.
