WAEC Commends Sunyani Senior High School’s Efforts to Combat Examination Malpractices

Sunyani: The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has commended the Board and Management of Sunyani Senior High School (SUSEC) in the Bono Region for their dedicated efforts to combat examination malpractices.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Daniel Dodoo, the Sunyani WAEC Controller, praised SUSEC for installing CCTV cameras as a WAEC examination center, urging other senior high schools to follow suit. He highlighted the school's 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results as evidence of SUSEC's commitment to excellence.

Mr. Dodoo spoke at a stakeholder engagement meeting on the 2026 WASSCE preparations, attended by candidates, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders. He noted that SUSEC had transformed from an examination malpractice hotspot into a model examination center in the region. He cautioned the 2026 WASSCE candidates and teachers against engaging in any form of malpractice, warning of potential fines or imprisonment for offenders.

Mr. Dodoo reviewed WAEC's revised examination regulations with the candidates, emphasizing that bringing mobile phones, wrist watches, and other foreign materials into the exam hall constitutes serious offenses. He explained that penalties for WAEC examination offenses could include result withholding or cancellation, urging candidates to work independently.

He also advised candidates against using foreign materials or body inscriptions during exams, as these could lead to the cancellation of results. Mr. Dodoo warned teachers against assisting candidates with examination questions, stating that if teachers did not help students in terminal exams, there was no justification for doing so in external exams.

Professor Emmanuel Opuni-Frimpong, SUSEC's Board Chairman, encouraged candidates to remain focused and confident, assuring them that WASSCE questions are based on what they have learned in school. He urged teachers to continue sensitizing students on WAEC rules and examination ethics.

Prof. Opuni-Frimpong, also the Global President of the SUSEC Old Student Association (SOSA), called on teachers to reinforce proper conduct, intensify revision, and ensure candidates were psychologically prepared for WASSCE without resorting to malpractice.

Mr. Gordon Osei Marfo, SUSEC's Headmaster, emphasized the school's commitment to strict supervision and accountability. He assured that teachers would adequately prepare and guide students with integrity. Noting that the school registered over 1,350 candidates for the 2026 WASSCE, Mr. Marfo urged a collective resolve to make SUSEC a model of excellence and credibility in both results and character.

Mr. Marfo, also the National Treasurer of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), encouraged candidates to commit to honesty and reject examination malpractices that could lead to trouble.
