Accra: Sharrif Abdulai Saani, known by his alias Cristos, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of Issah Yahaya and 22 other individuals. Saani has reportedly disclosed the motive behind his killing spree.
According to Ghana Web, the Principal State Attorney for the Upper West Region, Saeed Abdul Shakur, revealed that Saani confessed his actions were fueled by deep-seated anger, which stemmed from the humiliation he faced following a prior conviction. The ridicule and social exclusion he experienced after his release allegedly drove him to exact revenge on society.
Speaking to the media, Shakur expressed his emotional reaction to the chilling details shared by Saani during the court proceedings. Saani explained that his violent tendencies emerged after enduring public ridicule, prompting him to target vulnerable members of society.
Shakur stressed the importance of reflecting on the societal impact of bullying and exclusion. He emphasized the need to prevent such behavior, while acknowledging the necessity of the legal process. Saani, having pleaded guilty at both the committal and trial stages, provided a detailed account of his crimes when prompted by the court.
The prosecutor noted that although Saani was linked to multiple cases, the decision was made to proceed with one, as it would still result in a life sentence. The victims, often frail and unable to defend themselves, were primarily elderly security guards working to support their families.
