Asuogyaman: The Volta River Authority (VRA) has donated furniture and educational materials to schools in the Asuogyaman District to support teaching and learning. The support included 100 chairs and 100 desks for Apeguso Senior High School, as well as 10,000 exercise books and 1,000 mathematical sets for 11 selected basic schools.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Rhoda Arthur, Community Relations Officer of the VRA, stated that the donation was part of the Authority's community development programme aimed at promoting education in its operational areas. This initiative is part of a broader plan to distribute 100,000 exercise books and 10,000 mathematical sets to 110 selected basic schools across 19 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, including areas like Anwomaso, Aboadze, Tema, Kpone, Akuse, and Akosombo.
Mrs. Arthur emphasized that the Authority views education as crucial to sustainable development and community growth. She mentioned that investing in education is guided by the VRA's community programme framework, which places education at the heart of sustainable development. She highlighted that education not only paves the way to knowledge but also forms the foundation upon which communities thrive and futures are built.
The Authority feels a responsibility to support communities within its operational regions, ensuring that residents benefit from its presence. Mrs. Arthur pointed out that this gesture is more than distributing materials; it is an investment in the dreams and aspirations of the communities, aiming to power the future of Ghana through education.
Mrs. Arthur further explained that the intervention is intended to motivate students, support teaching and learning, and equip young people with essential tools for success. She noted that for VRA, education is the seed from which leaders, innovators, and change-makers grow. By supporting education, the Authority is shaping minds, strengthening communities, and adding value to lives.
Mr. Godwin Bobobee, District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman, praised the Authority for its support to education through the provision of infrastructure and learning materials. He remarked that the donation reflects a commitment to human capital development and urged students to remain focused on their studies.
Mrs. Augustina Adwoa Owusu, Asuogyaman District Director of Education, expressed gratitude to the VRA for the support. She mentioned that the donation would help address concerns about inadequate learning materials and ease the burden on some parents facing financial difficulties.
Mr. Sekyi Frederick Kwafo, Assistant Headmaster in charge of Administration at Apeguso Senior High School, thanked the Authority for the donation and pledged that the items would be used to support teaching and learning in the school.
