Accra: The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has called on Ghanaians to embrace integrity, patriotism, and environmental responsibility, emphasizing that the country's future relies not only on sound policies but also on the values and character of its citizens. Speaking at the 2026 National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service at Ola Senior High School in Ho, Gunu urged Ghanaians to recommit to righteousness, honesty, discipline, and national unity to accelerate sustainable national development.
According to Ghana Web, the minister highlighted that lasting national progress can be achieved when citizens prioritize national interest over personal gain and uphold strong moral values in their daily lives. Reflecting on the previous year's service, Mr. Gunu noted that it marked the start of a new chapter in the development of the Volta Region, with significant progress made over the past year. He acknowledged the success of last year's service, attributing it to the prayers heard by Almighty God.
Mr. Gunu expressed concern over the recent heavy rains causing severe flooding across parts of the Volta Region, affecting at least 10 districts and displacing hundreds of residents. He extended the sympathies of President John Dramani Mahama and the government to families who lost homes, farms, and property due to the floods. Highlighting climate change as a growing threat, he urged citizens to protect natural resources and adopt environmentally responsible practices.
Despite the floods' impact, the Minister expressed confidence that Ghana would recover through collective effort and resilience. He emphasized that moral renewal is essential to national development, stating that every successful nation is built on the character of its people. Gunu urged Ghanaians to choose integrity, service, unity, and hard work over corruption, selfishness, division, and shortcuts, noting that the desired Ghana begins with the choices of its citizens.
Gunu reminded Christians that prayer must be accompanied by genuine repentance and a commitment to doing what is right for national healing. He called on Ghanaians to demonstrate patriotism through actions such as rejecting corruption, protecting public property, respecting the rule of law, and serving as role models for future generations. Expressing optimism, Gunu stated that with faith in God, unity of purpose, and renewed national values, Ghana could build a just, peaceful, and prosperous society where opportunities are accessible to all, and sustainable development becomes a reality.
