Paris: Mr. James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, along with Mr. Stephen Adom, Municipal Chief Executive of Ho, visited the Matse-Dzobi Traditional Council to offer condolences on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following the passing of the Paramount Chief, Togbega Osei Tutu VI.
According to Ghana News Agency, the visit took place prior to the late Paramount Chief's final burial rites set for Saturday and aimed to express solidarity with the chiefs, elders, and people of the traditional area during their mourning period. The delegation presented assorted items to the traditional council as a sign of support and sympathy for the bereaved community.
During the engagement, Mr. Gunu conveyed the government's and the NDC's condolences to the people of Matse-Dzobi and commended the traditional council for peacefully managing the transition process. 'We are here on behalf of the President and the NDC party to commiserate with the chiefs and people of Matse-Dzobi over the loss of your Paramount Chief. We also commend the peaceful and dignified way the transition process has been conducted,' he stated.
The Regional Minister highlighted the unity and harmony demonstrated by the people, especially in the selection of a new chief without disputes, as commendable and exemplary for other traditional areas. 'The peace and unity being exhibited here are exemplary. It is refreshing to see a traditional area go through such a process without chieftaincy disputes,' he added.
The chiefs and elders of the Matse-Dzobi Traditional Council expressed their appreciation to the delegation for the visit and support during this challenging time. They also extended an invitation to the general public to attend the final funeral rites and burial of the late Paramount Chief scheduled for Saturday.
