Volta Regional Minister Bolsters Youth-Led Sanitation Efforts in Ho

According to ghana news agency:ccording to Ghana News Agency, Alhaji Mohammed Avona Akape, Chief Director of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC), delivered the items on behalf of the Minister. He praised the Mawuleme Movement for its dedication to environmental sanitation and urged the group to continue their efforts. Alhaji Akape emphasized the importance of sustaining Ho's reputation as Ghana's 'Oxygen City' through regular sanitation activities and community collaboration.

Madam Stella Kumedzro, Volta Regional Environmental Health Officer, also acknowledged the Mawuleme Movement's role in supporting government sanitation initiatives. She highlighted that effective sanitation requires collective effort from government bodies, stakeholders, and community members. She encouraged other youth groups and individuals to follow the Mawuleme Movement's example in promoting environmental cleanliness.

Madam Kumedzro assured the movement of ongoing support from environmental health officers through supervision, monitoring, and public education. She stressed the enforcement of sanitation by-laws to prevent unlawful practices, such as improper waste disposal, which undermine volunteer efforts and pose health risks.

Prince Yao Amevi, Convenor of the Mawuleme Movement, expressed gratitude to the Regional Minister for fulfilling his promise of support. He emphasized the necessity of protective gear and tools in ensuring volunteer safety and operational efficiency. Mr. Amevi outlined the movement's vision of making Ghana the cleanest country in Africa, starting with Ho and expanding throughout the Volta Region.

He appealed for further support from individuals and organizations, noting the need for resources like tools and logistics to sustain the movement's voluntary activities. Mr. Amevi highlighted the interconnected nature of sanitation, where issues in one community can impact neighboring areas, and stressed the importance of collective effort in maintaining a clean environment.

The movement is also collaborating with the Ho Municipal Assembly to establish sanitation clubs in schools as part of the Mawuleme Eco Brigade initiative. This program aims to educate students on waste management, recycling, and environmental care. Through this initiative, inorganic waste will be recycled, and organic waste will be converted to manure for school farming projects, fostering environmental awareness and sustainable practices among young students.
