Volta Region Sees Rise in Road Crash Fatalities in 2025

Volta region: Volta Region has witnessed an increase in road crashes related deaths between January and December 2025 as against same period in 2024.

According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Joana Fafa Ayer, Volta Regional Director, National Road Safety Authority, disclosed that the region recorded 139 deaths in 2025 compared to 89 in 2024.

Pedestrian knockdowns have also increased during the period under review, with 123 incidents recorded in 2025 compared to 96 in 2024. Furthermore, the number of persons injured in crashes rose to 551 in 2025 from 419 in 2024.

However, the region experienced a decline in the total number of road crashes, with 509 incidents recorded in 2025 as opposed to 525 in 2024. Additionally, the number of vehicles involved in crashes decreased to 850 in 2025 from 869 in 2024.

Madam Ayer emphasized the need for road user-stakeholders to exercise caution on the roads to help minimize accidents.
