Accra: Mrs. Marian Jemima Aku Adzroe, the Acting Volta Regional Director of Education, announced that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has commenced smoothly across the region, with all arrangements proceeding as planned. A total of 32,311 candidates from both public and private schools are participating in the examination.
According to Ghana News Agency, the candidates include 26,463 from public schools and 5,848 from private schools, with 16,236 girls and 16,075 boys. Additionally, 61 candidates with special needs are taking part, including 20 visually impaired and 41 hearing-impaired candidates. The examination is being conducted at 121 centers across the region's 18 districts and is scheduled to conclude on May 11.
Mrs. Adzroe, who joined the Volta Regional Minister's monitoring team, reported peaceful and orderly conditions at the examination centers visited, such as Mawuli School, Mawuko Girls School, Philip Akpo RC School, Ho Kpodzi Basic A, and Sokode Senior High School. She praised the leadership of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and expressed confidence in the candidates' abilities.
She urged candidates to focus and avoid examination malpractices, stressing that any form of cheating would result in serious sanctions. She also advised supervisors and invigilators to maintain integrity, warning that those found complicit in malpractice could face dismissal and prosecution. Mrs. Adzroe wished all candidates success and good health throughout the examination period.
