Vivo Energy Ghana Urges Proactive Approach to Safety at 2026 Safety Day Event

Accra: Vivo Energy Ghana, the exclusive distributor and marketer of Shell-branded fuels and lubricants, has marked the 2026 Safety Day and Awards by urging the public to adopt a proactive stance on safety issues. The event, held at the Airport City Shell in Accra, emphasized the theme 'Prepare to Respond'. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Christian Li, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Ghana, emphasized the importance of the theme, noting the high-risk environment in which they operate. He highlighted that many industry incidents are linked to shortcomings in risk assessment, transport safety, and operational controls, underlining the urgency of constant vigilance and readiness. Mr. Li reinforced that true safety leadership entails not only the prevention of incidents but also effective response preparedness. He stressed the company's investment in safety training, risk assessment, emergency response systems, and robust HSSEQ standards. Critical controls such as fire suppression systems and emergency shut -off valves are maintained through regular drills, audits, and preventive maintenance. The Managing Director called for renewed commitment from transporters, station operators, and contractors to adhere to company policies and protocols, including contractor safety management and permit to work requirements. He urged everyone to be prepared to respond calmly and responsibly to safety issues. Mr. Li expressed gratitude to Vivo Energy Ghana's HSSEQ team for their dedication to maintaining safe operations and thanked retailers, contractors, distributors, and partners for upholding high standards throughout the value chain. He also commended employees for their discipline and commitment to safety excellence. Professor Nana Ama Browne Klutse, CEO of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and guest speaker at the event, expressed confidence in Vivo Energy Ghana's leadership in safety responsibility. She highlighted the EPA's role in supporting sustainable development and announced a new digital platform fo r permitting processes, promoting efficiency and transparency. Partners and employees of Vivo Energy Ghana who demonstrated safety excellence were recognized with certificates and Chest Freezers as awards.
