Violence Erupts at Gomoa Nyanyano Easter Convention Amid Chieftaincy Dispute

Gomoa nyanyano: Chaos broke out at an Easter convention organised by the Church of Pentecost at Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region on Sunday, April 5, 2026.

According to Ghana Web, suspected land guards invaded the grounds, disrupting worshippers during the Resurrection Sunday service. Worshippers were attacked at the forecourt of the community's palace, where the convention was being held. The attackers reportedly dismantled canopy tents and forcibly ordered congregants to vacate the venue.

Citi News sources indicate that the church had invited two rival chiefs of Gomoa Nyanyano to grace the occasion; however, only one faction honoured the invitation. During the service, members of the opposing faction are said to have mobilised suspected land guards to disrupt the programme.

Police officers from the Central East Regional Police Command responded promptly to restore order and prevent further escalation. Meanwhile, the leadership of the church has declined to comment on the incident.

Tensions in the area remain high due to an unresolved chieftaincy dispute following the demise of Nana Wiabo.
