Agona swedru: A student from Obrachire Senior High Technical School, who was assaulted during a district inter-schools athletics competition, has come forward to share his account of the incident, maintaining that he did nothing to provoke the attack.
According to Ghana Web, the incident took place on February 19, 2026, during an inter-school competition in Agona Swedru and involved students from Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS). The victim recounted to TV3 Ghana how the assault occurred unexpectedly while he was addressing a health issue. "They threw stones at me when I was looking for a place to sit so that I could use some medicine on my eye. It happened unexpectedly," he explained.
He further shared that he was unaware of any tension building around him at the time of the incident. It was only when he noticed his colleagues fleeing that he realized something was amiss. "I wasn't looking. When I turned, I saw my colleagues running, but I didn't know what was happening. By the time I realized, a stone came to hit me," he stated. He emphasized that there was no prior confrontation, insisting the attack was completely unprovoked.
When questioned about the repercussions for those involved, the victim advocated for decisive actions. "I want them to be arrested, and anything that the government wants to do to them should be done," he urged.
In response to the incident, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed the arrest of three students in connection with the assault. This was confirmed by the Central Regional Director of Education, Dr. Juliette Dufie Otami, in an interview with JoyNews on February 23, 2026. The altercation reportedly stemmed from escalating tensions between students of Obrachire Senior High Technical School and SWESBUS, which led to a physical confrontation.
The violence disrupted the athletics competition and has raised public concerns about student discipline and security measures at inter-school events.
