Accra: Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has urged Ghana's newly appointed High Commissioners and Ambassadors-Designate to vigorously promote the country's interests and pursue opportunities that will contribute to national development. She made the call on Thursday, August 13, 2026, when she commissioned the envoys on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama. The new envoys are expected to serve in Kuwait, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Niger, and Norway.
According to Ghana Web, Professor Opoku-Agyemang highlighted that their assignments come at a time of significant geopolitical changes, making it important for them to be proactive and strategic in advancing Ghana's interests. She emphasized the need for the envoys to be visible and effective advocates for Ghana, deliberately pursuing opportunities in trade, investment, technology, education, and other areas essential for national development.
She also reminded the envoys that their responsibilities extend beyond strengthening diplomatic relations to ensuring the welfare of Ghanaians living in their respective jurisdictions. Professor Opoku-Agyemang stressed the importance of treating citizens abroad with dignity, engaging with them consistently, and ensuring that the country's missions remain available to support them.
The Vice President urged the diplomats to build on Ghana's existing relationships with their host countries, deepen bilateral cooperation, and explore new opportunities that could deliver tangible benefits to Ghanaians. She assured the envoys of the government's support as they undertake their diplomatic responsibilities and encouraged them to be guided by the performance standards and key performance indicators (KPIs) introduced by President Mahama.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang congratulated the newly appointed envoys and wished them successful tenures, expressing the hope that their work would deepen Ghana's international partnerships and create meaningful opportunities for the Ghanaian people.
