Accra: ValueJet Airlines, a Nigerian airline, has officially commenced commercial flight operations in Ghana, marking a new chapter in aviation connectivity between the two West African nations. The airline launched its Lagos-Accra route at Accra International Airport, emphasizing its commitment to providing safe and customer-focused services to travelers.
According to Ghana News Agency, Captain Omololu Majekodunmi, Managing Director of ValueJet Airlines, expressed gratitude towards Ghanaian authorities and stakeholders for their support. He highlighted the airline's dedication to offering quality and dependable services, with plans to strengthen operations on the Lagos-Accra route and explore additional destinations, including Abuja-Accra and Port Harcourt-Accra routes.
During the inauguration ceremony, a statement from Joseph Bukari Nikpe, Minister of Transport, delivered by Reverend Stephen Wilfred Arthur, Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, recognized the inaugural flight as a significant step for Ghana's aviation sector and regional integration. The Ministry acknowledged the role of airlines in boosting the national economy and enhancing ties with West African neighbors.
Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, welcomed the addition of ValueJet Airlines as the 27th operator at the airport. She noted that the airline's daily flights on the Lagos-Accra route would offer more connectivity options and strengthen the relationship between Ghana and Nigeria.
Ambassador Adedayo Adeoye, Charge D'Affaires of the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana, emphasized that the new service would foster competition, reduce travel costs, and enhance business and cultural exchanges. He described the route as crucial for commerce and investment opportunities, further solidifying the bond between the two countries.
Prof. Kobby Mensah, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Development Company, highlighted the importance of improved air connectivity for tourism growth. With Nigeria being a significant source market for Ghana, he expressed optimism that ValueJet's entry would boost capacity and accessibility, supporting tourism, trade, and interpersonal connections between the two nations.
