Accra: The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) is mourning the tragic death of Nelson Blay Nokotey, a Level 300 Top-Up Journalism student, following a fatal accident in which he was struck by a vehicle.
According to Ghana News Agency, the University has vowed to identify, apprehend, and prosecute the individual responsible for the incident in accordance with the law. The University's Public Affairs Directorate issued a statement describing the event as a painful and untimely loss that has left the UniMAC community in shock.
The statement, released from Accra, conveyed condolences from the University's Management, Governing Council, faculty, staff, and students to Nokotey's family, friends, and colleagues. Nokotey was recognized as a valued member of the institution.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Eric Opoku Mensah has met with Nokotey's family and engaged with the Students' Representative Council and the wider student body to offer support and solidarity during this period. Prof. Mensah emphasized the University's commitment to collaborate with the Ghana Police Service, through its Dean of Students Affairs and Chief Security Officer, to aid in the ongoing investigations.
The University has reiterated its dedication to ensuring justice, emphasizing that the incident is a criminal act that must be addressed by law.
