Kwadaso: A 25-year-old unemployed man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Kwadaso circuit court in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti region for robbing a trader at Aburaso.
According to Ghana News Agency, Daniel Cliff Twum, also known as 'Cliff Walker', pleaded guilty to the robbery charges and was convicted based on his own admission. Police Chief Inspector David Opoku Kwabi, prosecuting, informed the court, presided over by Mr. Jephthah Appau, that the victim, Hannah Owusuaah, is a trader residing in Aburaso, while Twum lived in Kenyasi-Abirem in the Kwabre East municipality.
The incident occurred on June 21, 2026, at around 10:00 p.m. when the complainant was assisting her 14-year-old son with homework in their living room. She fell asleep, allowing Twum to enter the room through a window. Armed with a knife, Twum threatened the child to remain silent. The boy complied, and Twum proceeded to steal two handbags containing substantial amounts of cash in various currencies, including $2,500, 1,910 Euros, 270 Canadian dollars, 400 Pounds, and 350 CFA francs, before escaping through the same window.
After the incident, the boy alerted his mother, who then reported the robbery to the Ashanti Regional Anti Armed Robbery Unit of the Ghana Police Service. On June 24, 2026, police apprehended Twum at his hideout in Agric Nzema, following intelligence reports. A search led to the discovery of a receipt from Mikkado Forex Bureau Limited, dated June 22, 2026, indicating an exchange transaction worth GHS 69,414.00.
Twum admitted to the crime in his caution statement, revealing that he spent GHS 48,000.00 of the stolen money on a Honda motorbike and used the remainder for personal expenses. The police recovered the motorbike, registered as M-26-AS 9958, for evidence. Following further investigations, Twum was charged and brought before the court for trial.
